Spring Club Rides!

BABC_STRAVA_WI.png

While our outside riding season hasn’t launched how we’d hoped, BABC has some amazing tools to continue our club activities in safe and socially responsible ways during this crisis. The Club can remain connected and find needed escape in time spent on our saddles along miles of county roads we’ve ridden hundreds of times with our friends.

If you are sick or need help, you can find links to Kokomo area resources in our COVID-19 resources posting.

BABC has selected Strava as the Club’s platform during the COVID-19 pandemic to enable us to chat with familiar faces from our club rides, see where we’ve been riding, which dogs we’ve been walking (or getting chased by), and what is going on in cycling locally.

You do NOT have to complete digitally-logged bike rides or runs during this time to hang out with your club!

Strava is focused to fitness and clubs without the side-distractions other social media platforms bring along. You can use your smartphone or browser to log your walks, runs, swims, yoga, or other activities you’re doing to stay healthy and sane. You can also hang out and post messages to your fellow BABC members from your couch after you comment or thumbs-up other members’ rides.

Starting in April 2020 BABC will continue our club rides using our favorite well-designed local routes. Members can earn club miles for completing the day’s #BABC route Strava segment during their ride. Watch for expanded route options! Until further notice there will be ZERO official credit (and a scolding) for miles ridden with other cyclists, groups, or on days recreational cycling may be restricted in the Kokomo area.

BABC members will need to:

  1. Review instructions for getting started with Strava in your web browser and create a free account at Strava.

  2. Review your Strava privacy settings, this is generally a one-time thing with occasional review if features are added. Setting a privacy zone around your home is a good start.

  3. JOIN and BOOKMARK our members-only BABC Strava club

  4. Review instructions for posting messages to the club and navigating our Strava Club on your computer or smartphone. You won’t mess up anything important, so play around and explore: go thumbs-up (Kudos) your fellow members’ rides, check out the events we’re (hoping to!) go to this year, and if you’re inclined, rank yourself in the club leaderboard for miles, climbing, or other riding stats.

  5. If you want to accumulate club miles, follow the instructions below to send your rides to Strava and go have fun on our usual routes below! Put #BABCmon, #BABCtue, #BABCwed, etc at the end of your ride name on Strava, so we can easily find your for-credit rides.

  6. Watch for more routes to be added!

Weekday Routes & Segments

Sunday Trail Rides!

  • You also still need to be a member of our Members-only Strava Group as described above

  • You need to ride ON SUNDAY (anytime is fine!)

  • In the name of your ride on Strava, put #BABCsun at the end

  • You are allowed to start your ride ANYWHERE along the Kokomo area trail systems and go in ANY direction (any part of the trail is OK - Nickel Plate, Industrial Heritage Trail, Walk of Excellence, etc - maps at bottom of link).

  • ONLY miles ON the trail will count toward official club miles - you can still still ride to/from the trail, just means those extra miles won't count toward club miles to keep it fair for everyone. You can ride anywhere from 1 to 30 miles for club credit. As above, you may *NOT* ride in groups unless it is with people in your household, this will be verified with your family membership forms to give miles credit.
