Today's sermon was on compassion and how a healthy disciple of Christ demonstrates compassion. How do you demonstrate compassion to others around you? Do you see their problems and have compassion for them? Do you wish there was something you could do to help? Well here's your chance. Within our community of Kokomo there are people without homes, people rebuilding after a devastating tornado. It was a month ago, but the after effects are still very present. This event is your chance to help an organization that helps our community! Give yourself a night out, a great workout, possibly win a really nice prize and show some compassion to the tornado victims by donating to this great cause! Hope to see you on the dance floor! ... Near the end of 2014 I posted a blurb about Old Man On a Bicycle and a photo of the book’s cover to bicycle shops and clubs throughout the country. Recently I was advised to repeat the process, which accounts for this Facebook posting. When I told family and friends that I intended to ride a bicycle from New Hampshire to San Francisco, most of them questioned my judgment, if not my sanity. I was in my seventies, hadn’t been on a bike for years, and had never ridden more than a few miles at a time. But in May 2002 I put doubters behind me and headed west.

Old Man on a Bicycle is the account of the solo bike ride across the country. I relate the challenges this included, such as riding a loaded bike over the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada, crossing the Great Plains in brutal summer heat, dealing with the aftermath of a collision with a car, and traversing Nevada’s basin and range country and the Great Salt Lake’s desert. Rewards included passing through spectacular mountain forests, experiencing the aching beauty of the lonely plains, viewing the grandeur of the West’s sculpted canyons and mesas, and meeting interesting people along the way. I tell how I prepared for the 3,600-mile journey and what I saw and did during the two months I was on the road. In addition I rebut the misconception that aging invariably means debilitating decline and, drawing on certain events of the ride, I present research-based advice on how to ease the physical aspects of aging, emphasizing the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being at all ages.

Some who have responded to this message have asked where they can buy the book. It is available on amazon.com (both print and Kindle editions), barnesandnoble.com, and other online booksellers. And It can be ordered at a local bookstore.

Restoration Worship (Ladies ONLY event)

November 7, 2015, 8:30am - November 7, 2015, 10:30am

Mark 12:30 says to " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." We are going to do just that! We are going to love God with all our mind by listening to a wonderful speaker share with us from God's Word. Then we are going to love him with all our strength, but working out our bodies and our heart as a muscle. Finally we are going to engage our heart as a part of our soul and worship God! It's going to be an awesome event that you will walk away from feeling completely refreshed and renewed, I'm sure of it! Our guest speaker is a lover & student of God's Word, a wife, a mother of four, and an author of the blog Deeperdevos.org. Stacey Salsbery presents the Word of God in an unashamed, truthful way that will give you new insights into your application of God's Word into your life. Our workout will be brought to you by none other than REFIT® with Charity Rossiter. We will cool down our workout and head straight into a time of worship. There's nothing better than singing praises to our God when you are physically spent! Childcare will be provided for children under the age of 7. Any other children are welcome to attend the event and participate in the event. Doors open at 8:30am, the event will begin at 9:00am! Mark your calendars! Did I mention this is a FREE event!!??

May want to take note of this if you'll be out and about this weekend on the Nickel Plate Trail! ... See MoreSee Less

From the Nickel Plate Trail: Volunteers have partially completed repairs on the failed culvert located north of Miami County Road 1500 North. Use extreme caution when cycling across this repair. A twelve foot stretch of "VERY" loose gravel will likely cause cyclists problems getting safely across the repair. We strongly recommend that cyclists stop and walk their bikes across this repaired section! We are trying to keep this trail section open but if we encounter any safety issues we will be forced to close it and reroute on county roads. Please share this notice!
